Jul. 18th, 2020 01:17 pmSex toys are weird. After the Covid-19 inspired sleeping separation between J and I (we don't want to cross contaminate, particularly since J's immune system is compromised), I decided to check out some sex toy options for AMAB people. I've never been particularly interested in the faux vagina/anus toys; they seem creepy and objectifying in all the wrong ways for me (I don't know if that's true for cis guys or not, since it's a nigh-admission about not being able to get sex to talk about using them: a cardinal sin against performative dudeliness).
Thanks to a great article from Allure, I decided to try two different toys:
the Maude Vibe
the Pulse Solo
They both seemed interesting on the non-objectification route (somehow using a toy that brings to mind an excised organ isn't really hot for me), and neither require erection (which is a thing at times due to HRT).
Both work well. The Maude Vibe seems more... elegant? Well designed, feels good both in the hand and on the body, and is relatively quiet (which is a thing for me, since I'm still struggling with shame issues).
The Pulse Solo unquestionably works, but it's loud. I don't know if this is an attempt to be "manly", or if it's over-engineered in a way that leads to loud, aggressive rumbling.
The weirdness for me is that it's sheer physical sensation. I don't have to engage the mental keys to locks of fantasy and neuroses to get the party started, or to reach the finish line. I think that's probably considered a positive thing; maybe many/a lot of people go body first, or want to, after which comes all the happy brain chemicals and stress relief. I don't know if it's trans specific, keyed to my own history of neurosis and habit, but the primarily physical, without the presence of another person, feels... weird, to me. Not bad, but very definitely not what I've been used to for the majority of my life.
