intense night

Spodgumine, one of our eighteen year old cats, had a sudden seizure tonight as I was feeding all of the beasties. To say that I freaked the fuck out would be putting it mildly. But, between trying to make sure she was breathing, get her somewhere comfortable, giving her the best I could figure out for a kitty heimlich (which might have added to the uncontrolled urination), trying to get in touch with J and find an emergency vet, I managed to do OK. It passed in something like five to fifteen minutes (my sense of time was waaaaaay messed up), but we decided to take her to the very nice, very close emergency vet center in downtown Decatur, just to be sure. The verdict (two hours and some undisclosed amount of cash later) was that she's doing amazingly well for an old cat with renal problems, but that it bears watching, since this was her first (and hopefully only) seizure.
In personal news, lizard brain does not like seizures, no. The response was, "This is wrong. This should not be in our house!" was immediate, but did not interfere with crisis mode; if anything, maybe it helped keep me focused, trying to get that damned seizure out.
It's been a night, though, that's for sure. Now, very very tired...
