last night

Came home, then went back out to the store for bare bones essentials
Washed dishes
Cleaned the cat box
Made dinner
Washed dishes again

Sometimes, some way, focusing on the small, necessary things helps. I don't know why, or how, and I can't force it or pretend, but sometimes, just having something to do makes a difference.

I think the quiet was a part of it. But, I say that as I'm gearing up for a day of not at all quiet, so I think my perspective could be skewed.

on food, history and ethics

This article (by Johathan Safran Foer) on family history, food, taste and eventually, vegetarianism, is really good. It helps me, at the very least, from feeling trendy, insufficiently dedicated or articulate about my own positions on food or like a meek follower. To me, it speaks in ways that echo with some of my own decisions, and my own failings. It makes me feel less weak and less alone at the same time, and that's never a bad thing.
