Questions from Greeky

1. Getting you back for yours, first up ;)-- you have on more than one occastion made the comment that you have never felt 'spiritual.' What do you think/imagine that sensation should be like (and therefore, how do you know you are not ;) ). What difference do you think it would make in your life if you had such an experience?

That's a very good question, and one I think about not infrequently. The best I can come up with is that I'm a hardcore gnostic with no gnostic experience. Faith has never made much sense to me, and I suspect that at the core of my gnosticism; I think the need to know is fundamental to spirituality for me, or at least what would make it valid for me, to me. Does that make any sense?

2. Your guiltiest literary pleasure?

I used to read, and enjoy in a bad movie sort of way, Laurell Hamilton's stuff, but it got to be too much sexual/personal wish fulfillment for even me (kind of like Heinlein in that regard). I really haven't been reading for pleasure for quite some time; that's probably not a good thing.

3. What is your take on empiricism?

I think it's the only place to start any investigation, but I think that acknowledging perspective and predisposition is just as necessary, else one's observations come to be taken as Truths. This is something of which I try to be aware in myself.

4. What have you learned from fairyhead that you did not know existed before you met her?

There are all sorts of discrete facts and neat bits of info that I could list, but I'm not sure that's what you're asking, and even if it is, it's not what I'm going to answer. Instead, I'll say that I learned that, despite being chock full of issues and problems, there is at least one person who thinks I'm worth the effort and will stick by me. That's quite a big deal for me, and isn't in any way hyperbolic or exagerrated.

5. What is the one thing about yourself you fear the most?

I have to pick one? OK, then I'll cheat, and I'll take something that easily bleeds over into other things: I fear my own internal standards, and the unflinching and absolute manner in which they are brought to bear on my self, actions, thought, etc., and the potential consequences of that application.

6. Is the world bnary on a fundamental level? (0-1s, binary opposites a la ole Claud (levi-strauss) etc.)?

No, I honestly don't think so. I think it's a developmental (curse you, HWiPfI!) tool with which to begin to see forces at play, tension, slack, and in betweens, but I don't think binary oppositional forces define either the physical or mental/social worlds. I think things are much more multifaceted than that construction allows.

7. What question would you have liked to have been asked?

If you could share one piece of knowledge with one person, what would it be and with whom?
