Much like my crushes, my categories and types of GBM are probably too numerous to count, so why not just dip in where my mind wants to take me?

I was thinking about Massive Attack this afternoon, in relation to Goldfrapp. Both are undeniably GBM (and then some), but they feel different to me. Massive Attack is a back and down/in kind of hot, an open acceptance of any hotness that comes along, fertile ground, like the idea of hotness considered and savored as a concept or possibility; Goldfrapp is a shoulders/head forward, up (I resisted the urge to say 'up and on') , active kind of hotness, ready to engage, hands primed to sieze, mouth to..., well, yeah. Billie Holiday or good delta blues is rainy day, low tech, windows open and nowhere to go in the moment/memento tristitia kind of thing. And then there's chunky guitar hot, syrupy indiepop hot, clever hiphop hot....

What about you?

I tried to watch TV in spare moments; it was neat to realize if I didn't try too hard, I could get a sense of what most shows were saying, and I thought/hoped it would help the more I did it. On all the news shows, the human interest story was all about Knut, the polar bear baby born at the Berlin zoo and sadly rejected by his mother. I found myself watching the news at least twice a day for updates and more super cute pics and video clips; how could I not? When out at dinner with fairyhead, her project manager and his wife (who had also gotten hooked on Knut coverage), the survival strategy of infant mammals came into view: "Don't kill me, I'm cuuuuuuuuuuute".

Seriously, go check out Knut
