I often have doubt that I'd know what to do in a crisis situation, how I'd handle things and how I might fall short. Some of this is probably an overenthusiastic attempt to reign in arrogance or dangerous overconfidence, and some is probably (thankful) lack of exposure.

Last night at Lavapalooza, one of our companions got suddenly terribly drunk, fell over backwards and hit her head on the wall. She got back up, then slumped over again, quite out of it. I held her up, then put her in the chair concerned patrons provided. I checked her eyes as she struggled back to consciousness, then watched them roll back as she checked out. In the midst of the confusion and panic, fairhyead suggested getting her out to a less crowded, quiet place would work, so I picked her up and carried her out (go adrenaline!). Waiting for the ambulance to come, we marshalled ice for the swelling knot on her head, kept her on her side once she started vomiting (a good sign) despite the 911 phone rep trying to get us to put her on her back, and kept calling her name and trying to get a response. Just as the paramedics showed up, she started moving her arm, as if to ward off the light or cradle her head, another good sign. J went off with the ambulance, and I headed home to wait on reports, but pretty sure things would be OK, probably just sudden onset of way too much booze. Four hours later, J came home, confirming exactly that.

So, one positive in handling crises, with no horrible results.
