Jul. 1st, 2007 03:34 pmI don't break rules to break them, because that gives the rules too much power, and I'd rather not reify and/or reinforce something by linear opposition. It's a trap, though it's often a very satisfying one. It seems like the power is in ignoring them, not breaking, which is why, when I'm smart, I'm reluctant to draw attention to the rules I've dropped, because it's far too easy to be roped back onto the line when people want to comment on transgression for positive or negative. There is a power to breaking them, sure, but it ties you to it in unpleasant ways. If I'm to go out tied to something, I want it to be raunchy, nasty fun, not monomaniacal annihilation.
