Walking down a mostly darkened hall, I catch a glimpse of a pile of pillows and a comforter on the futon in our book room, dimly illuminated by the soft grey-blue light of a drizzly dawn. It's quiet still, and the rain outside dampens what little noise there is, and suddenly it hits me; all I really want to do is curl up on that futon and read in silence, pausing to occasionally look out the window or pet a sleepy kitty. Facing unskilled drivers in a slight shower is a poor substitute.

Driving to and from Savannah, it struck me just how wet everything was from Macon southwards; all rivers were over their usual banks, and lots of low-lying land was submerged along the interstate. In Savannah itself, it looked very out of place to see decorative fountains turned on and everything green.
