Very strange dreams about being one of two noncooperative, competitive explorers on a strange planet. We were looking for some high powered "quantum" mineral over this rocky terrain, using two hand held light type devices; you had to shine one onto rocks or soil only after already illuminated by the other to see it. Despite traveling together, there was the sense of being at odds, I think because the mineral was very rare and the system encouraged everyone against everyone else.
We kept recrossing one area, following my lead, because something kept nagging at me, one ridge in particular. It eventually hit me that it was the "quantum" mineral, but lighter (rather than the common black), and worth more, and it was a huge vein of it. In that instant, I made the decision to share rather than hoard, and pointed it out to the other surveyor, and we began to interact like friends.
We ended up back in a large, open, messy hotel room, like shared living arrangements maybe with other surveyors. I was sleeping in someone else's bed that was sandy or gritty; in the dream it made sense, because the dust got everywhere. At one point, I realized it was "quantum" dust, dark black particles of the "quantum" mineral that various folks had tracked in, and I wondered if the hotel staff shook out the sheets and sold it. I also wondered at the effects of such prolonged proximity would have on people, and in my case, I seemed certain that it would magnify the effects of my hormones.
Economics, sci-fi, and trans-endocrinology: wtf?
