I'm very frustrated with Congress and the president right now.
Tax cuts for economic stimulus DO NOT WORK. It's not like they've never been tried; what have the past eight years been, and where has that gotten us collectively? What are the requirements for a member of Congress or the Senate, anyway, other than a willingness to sell off parts of oneself and a raw talent for ass kissing? Doesn't anyone look at history, even recent history (I've given up on economics; it seems Objectivism is all that gets touched, and we're much better without that).
The consumer economy is DEAD. It should be; 60-70% of all spending coming from consumers was unsustainable; if this is the "normal" people keep referring to, then there is no "back to normal". It's predicated on cheap labor, cheap materials and cheap shipping, all of which are evaporating. The social, economic and environmental costs are only now coming home to roost.
I really, really wish there was a way to excise "conventional wisdom" easily without (necessarily) killing the host.
