"Words that people find 'offensive' are just words unless they are used to cause real harm (loss of job, home, freedom) to someone."

Apparently you're just tougher than I am. There are words out there that can hurt me, that do hurt me when used; sometimes people mean it and sometimes they don't, but they still hurt. I don't think that's terribly uncommon, actually. I guess not everyone is as tough as you are.

And then there's the question of "real harm"; who gets to decide? You? The comfortable majority?

But you know, even if the majority of humans haven't the Supreme Pinnacle of Social Invulnerability that you have, is it such a sin to be considerate? Thinking of others, even if they aren't someone you know and/or care about, is kind of a big thing. Anyone can be an asshole; it doesn't make you special, really. Now being thoughtful and considerate? That's a big deal, at least in my book.

I've decided to change some of the distribution of my charitable giving and try to keep my money closer to home than to give it all to large, national organizations. Thus far, the big local winner has been the Atlanta Community Food Bank, with Furkids coming in second. My question is, local readers, do you know of any other non-religious, leftward to bleeding heart leaning charities you might recommend to me? I tend to assume my politics are an open book, but if you have questions, let me know.
