yeah. a lot of what you've been saying lately is really ringing true for me. i haven't been commenting but i've been reading. maybe we'll get a chance to discuss soon.
While I feel pretty certain that I'm not the first to stumble into this territory, it really helps knowing someone else for whom this isn't as foreign as it often seems to be for others.
pressures to remain invisible.... hmmm... Along the lines, for instance, of pressures not to let my mother in on the fact that her kid is an aspiring freak? (just trying to understand general domain). Entirely different from your experience, I am sure, but this is something that runs through my head on occasion.
Theoretical question: how do you understand that thing about "power can only be exercised over subjects who are free"?
Related pressures, I feel certain; I don't know enough about the scope of yours to comment more specifically, I'm afraid. So "different, but related" is the diagnosis.
Regarding the quote, I think that I tend to experience force more than power, in the sense that while I am certainly complicit in its application to myself, I don't feel free in it.
