math problem

If trip A takes 40 minutes at time Y, and trip B=(trip A - 1 hour start time, then trip B = 2*(trip A)=90 minutes.

Or, in English, getting to work an hour earlier doubles my commute time.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I don't know why the whys matter so much, but they work me over fairly regularly.
