Mar. 17th, 2006 01:21 pmThinking today in my post lunch walking that part of the problem with the current world seems to be transportation and distribution. Because I'm a commie pinko anarcho-socialist localist, I tend to see the current system as designed to distribute goods as far, wide, and deeply as possible (because there might be a few people in Zambia who haven't heard of product X yet!). That got me to thinking about what would be different if instead the focus was on transporting people as quickly and efficiently as possible, rather than goods, taking the person to the world, rather than the world to the person, so to speak. Were that the focus, it seems intuitive that single occupancy land-yachts (ostensibly designed to haul stuff in the most aggressive but theoretical way possible) would be replaces by smaller vehicles with little to no cargo space, all available interior space geared for human occupancy.
