Jul. 12th, 2006 08:16 amListening to music that was important to me twenty years ago, I realize now that at the time I threw over/overlooked music that seemed to be about things I already possessed, but with which I was uncomfortable (frustration, melancholy, focused, searching hunger and dissatisfaction) for things I didn't have but thought I wanted (broad but shallow, expansive, accepting love). Jumping to now, reconnecting with the former class of music feels almost reclamatory, and good, like I can finally recognize the music for its merits as well as what it makes resonant in me.
