Rufus left us today. Apparently his kidneys were giving him problems, they weren't sure if it was genetic/congenital or an infection. While GVS was trying to stabilize his fluids and his temperature, his little heart just stopped. They tried resuscitation, but it was only the chemicals that kept him going. The vet said there was almost no chance of him ever returning to being a kitten; while she was saying that, a lab tech came and said his heart was slowing down again. It seemed like a sign, so we let him go.

I'm so sorry that the last people he saw before he died weren't us, and I'm sorry we couldn't be with him longer. After only two weeks, he'd made his mark on us. Janiene was right, he was the best.

We'll be staying in all night. Sorry to those who were hoping to see us.
