The Illusionist

I lucked out and caught The Illusionist tonight on cable, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pace of the storytelling, the restraint of all performances (even Rufus Sewell): it impressed me in quieter, more profound ways than the coarse flash of The Prestige, though the comparisons are natural, if not unavoidable. Movies like this convince me of the talent of Ed Norton, when he chooses to play full out, and if anyone would have suggested to me before this that I'd find Jessica Biel captivating, I would have laughed, but I did.
