Misogyny, trans-misogyny, the cachet of cool, and internalized self-hatred/self-doubt are all factors in the difficulty I have in engaging with and owning some of my kinks and interests. The construction of trans identity in the US (at least: I can't speak intelligently about trans culture in other countries or social contexts) is predicated on a joylessness that eschews kink and interest that is outside of a anemic, 70s era second wave mainstream feminist understanding of sex and gender. There is movement along the LGB axis of queerdom, but mix in trans + gender, and it's all of a washed out color that would no doubt please Pence and mommy (if not for the ickiness of trans, naturally).
