Where did the phrase "grace under pressure" come from, anyway? Is it some Platonic ideal that cannot exist in the world we inhabit, or does it actually occur sometimes? All too often it has been my experience that stress and pressure in a group environment only serves to bring out, if not the worst, then substantially less than the best in a lot of people. Maybe it requires more self-awareness and navel gazing than most seem either comfortable with or capable of, but I don't know.

I'm feeling just a tad cynical right about now.

Silly head, you're overlooking the obvious. 'Grace under pressure' has nothing to do with groups of people, but individuals - as you so competently displayed on Saturday. It has so much to do with having intellect, maturity, and will power. You've got it and most people don't. So, you should be gloating and feeling all superior ... ;-)
