There are times that I actively resist realizing someone is a subject/agent when they possess traits (usually physical) I that I envy. It's easier, somehow, to pretend there is nothing, or the negative, underneath that which I long for but can't have, than to face the fact that it's a real human being that deserves to be acknowledged. It's shameful, but it's present in me.
