What I've noticed is that the "extraordinary factor" will zoom up to a very high level and last for some (relatively short) period of time: a few weeks, a few months, what have you. Then it settles down again to a level which is more normal for me but still somewhat higher than I started out with.

Yeah, I get that sometimes, too. Other times, there will be little moments of "Hey, I know this feeling!" that come to be a regular part of life.
