All on the "other" team (I'd whip them into shape faster if they were on the good team), day one for one, week two for another, and of course the conversation turns on gender essentialism ("You know you have problems when your woman is butcher than you are" me: "My sweetie's way butcher than me in most cases..."), which quickly turned on pudgy geeks talking about the desirability/hotness of women, as if pudgy, poorly socialized geeks are any great catch themselves. Hello, unexamined assumptions of "normalcy".
Could be worse. At least these aren't executing daily discussions on capping asses and who they fought or why they're so great in the tech world (except they're working on a help desk, and not doing that stellar of a job at it), etc etc etc.?
I've experienced somewhat of that here. My immediate coworker seems pretty damn cool, I've slipped a few photos of myself in things like eyeliner so far, let him in on the fact that I run with "strange" crowds (as is stereotypically considered), and he seems cool with it...
Now a lot of the other "older" coworkers? Eh, probably not so much...
And I feel quite out of place that I'm the only one who didn't get whipped in to a frenzy recently when someone mentioned football season starting...
Sometimes, I think it was living in Europe, that taught me to be open-minded. My friends accept me as I am, so I returned the feelings. It comes down to my Mom. Back in the 60s, she met and married a Mexican. The last family reunion, she still got shit for that. My Mom, taught me to be tolerant of other's feelings... they'll eventually will die;) As they die out, we can take over.
Or at least cleaning services. Of course, it'd be easier to clean at the source:
"Excuse me, sir, cleaning service." "What, I didn't order any service.." "It's a service on your account, sir. If you'd just step inside a moment." "What..? Argh" (muffled sounds) "Excellent. Now the "cleaning" can begin. Ha ha ha..."
