omg the cuteness

So we went today to furkids today to look at kittens. Fairyhead's original plan was to pick one up, and then get an older feral from our vet, but the best laid plans...
First, all the cats were amazingly cool, friendly, well socialized, and obviously well loved. Plus, they could smell a sucker when in the room with one; I think I missed most of the introductory conversation, as cats were politely but firmly reminding me that I wasn't petting them. We started off with adults, just because they were begging at the door, but then moved quickly to the kitten room, where the doom began.
I had originally assumed we'd leave with two kittens, because I know I'm not the voice of reason when it comes to things like this, and because I assumed fairyhead's kitten lust would kick in once in the presence of them. We were a little uncertain which kids to pick, but then we went to the admitting area, and were totally charmed by a little of three seven week old kittens (a calico, a black on black tabby, and a black and white tuxedo). There was some talk of only taking two, but I was firm that it was a bad, bad idea to take two of three of a litter, leaving an orphan behind. I was prepared to choose two other cats, until J melted and said, "OK, let's get all three".
So, we now have Rufus (Xavier Sasparilla), Kali Lily, and Petrov. The cuteness factor in our house has gone up in orders of magnitude. Now, we just have to convince Zevo that they're not the enemy, and then it's smooth sailing.
Yeah, we're cat bitches; what of it?

Oh, and I'm sure Zevo will come around. When Toulouse first met Nusumi, he was actually afraid of her (would run away growling every time she approached). At some point he realized she was not going to nibble him to death, and they became good buddies. Now he chirps and squeaks at her to try to start games of "kitty tag."
Kitten lust...

Date: 2006-08-21 11:40 am (UTC)my last two kittens were the same story, a litter of three but someone had already adopted one of them and i didn't even get a look. i took the two remaining tuxedos and have never been happier with an animal choice. they entertained, educated and looked out for one another. and now we refer to them as "the bad assistants," circa kafka's the trial.
happy furry family to you both!
