more trans bitching

I'm such a sucker, at a not fully rational level, for things that look/feel like inclusion. This has been really fucking me up lately, particularly in regards to conversations about trans issues going on around the corner of the blogosphere I read. I'll see mention of trans issues or trans people, and that part of my brain jumps up and thinks "Oh, trans: that's the group that includes me! This will pertain to me, let's take a closer look", only to realize that the usage is actually trans=transsexual when the conversation invariably turns to "transmen" and "transwomen". It doesn't matter that I agree with a lot of the specifics of what is being said; the totalizing, excuding language (particularly from writers I like and respect) hurts, and alienates me a little more because of the initial expectation of inclusion. I've tended to react to this as "pissed off", but I think "hurt" is more honest, only it's harder for me to bear.
