Last night as we were going to bed, our super smart hyper cat was scrabbling around in one of the open windows in a suspicious way. Fairyhead checked it out, and best we could figure out, he had pushed part of the screen out, and was working on the rest, so we closed the window. For the next five minutes or so, he kept trying to open it; he'd bite the handles and try to push, claw at them, or pace on the windowsill. We figured he was being monomaniacal, and went to sleep.

Cut to 5:45 this morning, when the fuzzy little bastard got me up by attacking my feet. I got up to feed the horde, but only three cats came running. Being a little worried, I checked the house top to bottom, but no Lily-cat. Fairyhead woke up and started checking the house again, while I headed outside, terribly worried that she had gotten out and then lost, or worse. When I turned the corner to the side under our bedroom window, my flashlight picked up two glowing eyes under the very impressive underbrush. As I crept closer, it was Lily, hunched over and unmoving, not making a sound until I was slowly reaching out to her, when she made a little "Meep" and lunged towards me.

The scared little baby didn't want to be put down, even when safely inside, until a can of food was put out, at which point she pushed the others out of the way and devoured it all. She seems no worse for the wear, but still a little clingy. The impressive message we take away from this is how scary smart Petrov is. Best we can tell, he was trying to get to her without falling, and when we closed the window, trying to open it again so she could get back in. The screen was still in the frame when we went to bed, but on the ground this morning, so Lily might have actually tried to climb back up the vines to get in. Now that everyone's OK, we joke that Petrov and Lily are amazed at how stupid we are, and what a good thing we pet them and open food containers, since we're obviously not good for much else.

It's so hard to find good help these days, but at least you figured it out with their help-learn to speak the language already! ; ) I am very glad it all turned out okay. Go Lily and Petrov, Super Kitties!
