For the past couple of days, I slide into or out of consciousness finding myself structuring and polishing a paper or presentation on three dimensional gender modeling. I wonder if this is a sign I'm ill, or something else?

I suspect the conscious mind doesn't get nearly as much done as we need. I think your subconscious is doing the job without a pesky front-end to interfere.
