What is the danger in thinking positive thoughts about myself, or assigning myself positive traits?

The danger, in your mind, is that you might be wrong. Then again, it could be that you might be right and have to live up to those positive things.

From an outside perspective, there is no danger. You've had those positive traits for ages and live up to them successfully all the time ...

Heh, Janiene brought up the main points.
But also consider that even if you're wrong, what has been lost?
We often become what we believe we are.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is becoming a jerk based on your positive thinking. I can list off plenty of people who've let positive thinking make them into something arrogant and unpleasant, myself included at times. I'm sure you can think of others.
But I think that's wayyyyy up ahead to the point of only being theory, and we'll keep kicking you to make sure that doesn't happen.

the only danger i can think of is that...

That you can be criticized for something you regard as positive? That you aren't your own "worst critic"?

For me, to be criticized for something that I like about myself is much more painful than being criticized for a fault I already acknowledge.
