flirting with the flood

Oh, how I needed a deluge and didn't know it. The rain was easier today than yesterday in traffic, I think because it was actually raining, not the slight drizzle that makes people think they can drive and act like as much of an asshole as on a regular day. Today, no chance of that. The bright flash of thick white lightning as I stepped into my office parking lot made me smile. I think it set the tone for the next hour and a half in my car.
It didn't really bottom out until I was almost at the pick up spot for our CSA. The thick, white ground strikes picked up again; by the second counting, they were half a mile away or less (one, almost on top of me; it made me start, then smile like a manic idiot). I had taken all of three steps when I was soaked from the knees down, in spite of my umbrella (only three syllables, Rhianna, not four). As I saw the rain from the inside, like a solid wall of grey in motion and all the scared shoppers clustered just under the awning, it made me laugh out loud in anticipation and pleasure. Based on the looks I got, it probably sounded a little crazy, too. A short trip back to my car and I was half soaked; it made sense to take off my shirt and use it to wipe the inside of my windows, and then the long, slow, aquanautical trip for the last three miles to my house.
I don't know what it is about a good downpour, but it almost always makes me feel faster, lighter and more energetic. Thanks, rain!
