I feel as though I'm doing an immense amount of slow, heavy work today. I've just started what I hope to be the first real communication with my mother in years, and have a sneaking suspicion that I will try the same with my long silent father, as well.

It probably won't go well, and I may not even get a reply, but I said some things I needed to say for a long time. I'm trying to think of that as enough.

Careful not to wed yourself to the outcome. From my experience, expectations can often breed devestating disappointment...

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to focus on the fact that I did it. Even if my mother never replies or mentions it, I did it, and that counts for something.

A beginning. There's a lot of pent up, poisonous ugliness I'd like to be free of sooner rather than later. We'll see how that goes.
